Brief of Establishment

Bangladesh Herbal Products Manufacturing Association (BHPMA)foresee huge potentiality of export market for herbal products including herbal medicines and raw materials if, the medicinal plants are grown and processed following WHO guidelines for Good Agriculture and Collection Practices (GACP), 

Good Manufacturing Practices(GMP), Traceability and Fair Trade Practices. With this visionary outlook the Association has been working with more than 65,000 medicinal plant grower scattered throughout the ten districts of Rajshahi and Rongpur mission in collaboration with development partners. As part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) members of the Association seriously look after the interest of the growers and entered into buy back agreement by which herbal products manufacturers imposed a self-bound of purchase of all materials grown by the farmers. This collaborative initiative established a unique model of contract growing of medicinal plants for rest of the part of the country. From the inception of BHPMA the association has made significant effort towards the development of the herbal sector, as well as contributed to employment generation, women empowerment environments. Improvement, biodiversity conservation and safe cost effective drugs marketing resulting socioeconomic development of mass people of the country.

However, capitalizing the success of medicinal plant cultivation initiative of Rangpur and Rajshahi division BHPMA will extend the same programme in the new areas like Shaghata Upazilla of Gaibandha and in Chittagong and Mymenshing division. The targeted medicinal plant growers for the new areas expected to be about 5000. BHPMA continue its collaboration with Medicinal Plant and Herbal Products Business Promotion Council (MPHPBPC) of the Commerce Ministry for developing the Herbal Sector. As a part of the joint efforts BHPMA has proposed various programmes for the period July, 2019 to June, 2020 along with a detailed budget. The programmes included different awareness meetings, seminar and also technical orientation events on organic cultivation of selective medicinal plants.

In addition, various publication materials such as Journals, Handouts, Newsletter, Periodicals and Leaflets to be developed and distributed among the medicinal plant growers and relevant stakeholders.
